The Board of M HKA has acknowledged the letter from Mr Bart De Baere, in which he resigns as General and Artistic Director. The Board accepts his resignation with gratitude for his many years of dedication, his vision, and his international contribution to M HKA and the Flemish art sector.

To ensure a smooth transition, the Board considers it desirable that Mr De Baere remain available at the start of the transition period to provide advice and guidance.

To safeguard continuity during this period, the Board has appointed Mr Dieter Vankeirsbilck, currently Business Director, as Acting General Director. He will assume day-to-day leadership of the institution and support the team while further decisions regarding the museum’s future policy framework are considered.

The Board remains committed to the protection of M HKA’s collection and its role within Antwerp’s cultural landscape. It emphasises the importance of consultation and collaboration with the Board, staff, and the wider art sector in shaping the museum’s future. Decisions regarding museums, collections, and artists must be transparent and enjoy broad support.

With a firm conviction that Antwerp should continue to host a museum for contemporary art, the Board will maintain an approach rooted in openness and dialogue.
